“I have been getting amazing results since I have been coming to see Jarod in Austin. So naturally, I was disappointed when in-person visits were no longer an option during corona virus “social distancing”.
If I’m honest, at first I was a bit skeptical about how physical therapy would translate to an online telehealth platform. However, as a practitioner of telemedicine myself, I decided to give it a go.
The online PT platform was easy to navigate, the appointment was easy to set up, and the video quality/sound quality was good. But more importantly, the results I got from the online physical therapy sessions were amazing!
It was hard to believe I could inflict the same level of pain on myself that Jarod normally does on me :-), but after the first session, I had much more range of motion, less pain, and was feeling great! I highly recommend Carter Physiotherapy’s online treatments because they still deliver results!

“It seemed that every time I get over one injury, get healthy for a week, the very next week I would tweak or pull something else. This past Thursday, we were scrimmaging at the end of practice and I felt something pop in the back of my leg. Thankfully, practice was ended shortly after I got hurt. I went to Carter Physiotherapy the next day, and my therapist immediately knew what had happened, and was able to treat me for a large tear in the fascia of my hamstring. The treatment was very painful, as he pushed and manipulated the injured area, but I left the ONE treatment being able to run (which he had me do in the parking lot after the session).
He did a complete analysis of my body and showed me all of the problem areas that were leading to my injuries. I have worked with physical therapists in the past, through college, and after, and I have never ever been more impressed. If not for Carter Physiotherapy, I wouldn’t be fit to play this weekend, and who knows how long I would be out.

I tried several conservative treatments at home without relief and then decided to see Jarod for some Manual Physical Therapy and was pain free in a week (3 treatments). Having worked as a Doctor of Physical Therapy and now completing my medical degree at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, I would have to say that my therapist’s knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and how to properly restore normal function is as good, if not better, than most of the Osteopathic Physicians I have worked with. The therapists at Carter Physiotherapy spent time with me observing how I walked and moved, asking questions and then worked on my back. I am pain free for the first time in years! They identify the issue quickly, they are thorough and they really care about their patients. They worked with my mom when she was in town to visit and she had great success too! “In 2008, I was referred by my General Practitioner to a sports medicine physician for a worsening condition with my left shoulder. Over a period of about 18 months my shoulder became more and more painful and inflexible. I could not reach behind my back or easily put on a shirt at that point.
The sports medicine physician suspected a torn rotator cuff and ordered two different MRI’s – one without contrast and then one with contrast dye. The tests confirmed that it was NOT a rotator cuff issue and I was referred to a another sports medicine doctor – a shoulder specialist at a large prestigious sports medicine practice in Austin.
The new doctor took one look at my shoulder and declared that I had bursitis and proceeded to give me a cortisone injection (so painful I passed out in his office) and predicted I would be cured by morning. This prediction proved to be wrong and he sent me to his in-house Physical Therapist for the traditional shoulder exercises to see what would happen.
I eventually shared my saga with my friend at Carter Physical Therapy who listened to my story and immediately suspected that I had a condition called a Frozen Shoulder. He explained that he had recently studied some innovative treatments for this frustrating condition and offered to treat me. He began a series of manual adjustment and massage treatments on my shoulder about once a week. Within six weeks I was pain free and had regained normal mobility in the shoulder and two years later no symptoms have returned.
The therapists at Carter Physical Therapy were knowledgeable and dramatically more effective than the two specialists I saw. Their treatment actually fixed the problem. They have a kind and compassionate bedside manner and you know the first time you meet them that they really care about the wellbeing of their patients. You are truly in good hands when you put yourself in their care.

Once, right before I was supposed to go on an extended business trip, I sprained my ankle. I made an appointment hoping that they might be able to relieve some of the pain. I was surprised, however, that after one session Jarod had completely restored the full range of motion on my sprained ankle and eliminated all of the stiffness and pain I had been experiencing from that sprain. I had no idea that was even possible!

“The therapists at Carter Physical Therapy are so professional and ask so many questions to understand all your joint, muscle or tissue issues. They could not be more thorough. Their methods are very different than traditional Physical Therapists. Their goal is to get you at 100% in as few appointments as possible, unlike other therapists that have you come back for months to get better, which makes me happy since I don’t have to spend the time or money on countless appointments! Their method works. Now, I will say, it is pretty painful. But oh my gosh, it is so worth it. And they are good conversationalists which helps you almost forget about the pain.
I met the therapists at Carter Physical Therapy at a sporting event where they were offering free injury evaluations. I had pulled my hamstring muscle 2 months prior (trying to go too far in my splits- oops!) and it had never gotten better. I tried leaving it alone for a couple weeks, stretching it, heating pads, ice, etc and nothing worked. So when I saw Jarod, I thought, “Hey, what the hell. Might as well try this.” He told me that within 5 minutes, he would be able to make about 50% of the pain go away. I was skeptical. But he was wrong – it was like 70% better! In 5 minutes! I was sold. I wanted to get to 100% so I booked an appointment with them. Two appointments (plus those 5 minutes) later, my hamstring is 100% now. They even gave me a list of exercises and stretches to do at home.
Whenever I have an ache, pull a muscle, or otherwise hurt myself, Carter Physical Therapy will be the first place I call.

“Hi , my name is Juanita. I had been living with lower back pain for about 1 1/2 years before I went to Carter Physiotherapy.
I went to a chiropractor for a year of treatments. Towards the end of the year with the chiropractor that nagging lower back pain was still present. So when the chiropractor wanted me to sign up for another year of treatments I said, ” No, thank you “, it’s time to try something else.
My daughter had informed me that one of her friends is a Physical Therapist and that I should give them a try. That’s when I met the therapists at Carter Physiotherapy. Boy was I glad I took my daughter’s advice. From the very first treatment that nagging lower back pain started to diminish.
Now I am able to walk at a fast pace like I used to before the pain. With just three treatments and advice about what exercises to perform, I am on the way to feeling like my old self again. No more constant lower back pain.
The treatments at Carter Physiotherapy have also helped me with my knees and my neck.

“I absolutely recommend the therapists at Carter Physiotherapy. Their therapists are simply extraordinary. I had lost the function of my right shoulder due to wearing a brace on my fractured right humerus for more than three months. The fracture had not yet healed, but the orthopedic surgeon felt we could start Physical Therapy before my shoulder got any worse. And so, after calling the surgeon to be sure exactly what type of stress my arm could tolerate, my PT began working his magic, which led us to this week and my fully-functional right shoulder.
They are very, very good at what they do. They are insistent without being demanding. They are funny and charming and just the perfect people to cajole me into doing those home exercises.
They made me feel that they cared about me as an individual, not just as “the right shoulder” or “the fractured humerus.” They tailored their hands-on treatments and my exercise routine to my physical ability and mental state as we went along, and turned what could have been a tedious and painful ordeal into something I actually looked forward to each week.

“came to Carter Physical Therapy after my fiancé went and saw them for an ankle injury that had bothered him for years. After 3 visits he was playing soccer and tennis several times a week and happier than ever.
As I was training for a marathon I started having some trouble with my knee. I suspected the IT band, but stretching did nothing to ease the pain. I went to Carter Physical Therapy and they immediately noticed that my hips needed strengthening on one side, which was causing the IT band to strain and hurt.
They did one treatment on me, gave me an in-home exercise program, and suggested that I get orthotics made to further help my situation. That night after one treatment I ran a fast 6 miles pain free! I went for two more treatments to have the orthotics made and to work a bit on the problematic knee. I have continued the at-home exercises and still remain pain free! I’m so glad I went to Carter Physical Therapy!

“I highly recommend Carter Physiotherapy. I went there last year when I started having some pain in my wrist and elbow. I was surprised how well they found the exact muscles that were bothering me and had some interesting techniques to fix the issue. Some say it’s a little painful but I gladly put up with a little pain to get rid of what was becoming a chronic condition.
After the first session, most of the at-rest pain was gone and after the second, the stress-related pain left too. They suggested ways to correct the condition from reoccurring and I haven’t had a problem since.

“I went to Carter Physical Therapy because of sciatica. I’d already had treatment by another Manual Therapist, which definitely helped, but I just wasn’t able to rid myself completely of nagging and occasionally painful effects. I should also add that I hadn’t been able to run for nearly a year because it would always re-aggravate the sciatica, and plane rides or car rides caused pain.
After several treatments I have ZERO sciatica pain. Not only that, but they helped correct a toe injury that has bothered me for many years. I should add that as a patient I had – and still have – responsibilities in the treatment. Nearly every day I do the stretches and exercises they prescribed. Those are an important part of successful treatment.
I’m back to running 10-12 miles a week. Incredible! Give Carter Physical Therapy a call if you have an injury. They are gifted therapists!

Multiple visits to orthopedic surgeons did nothing to help, nor did massage therapy, body workers, or just plain resting. A friend recommended Carter Physiotherapy and I’m glad she did!
After the first treatment I was already feeling drastically better, and after a couple of treatments I am now 100% pain free in my clavicle! I even went back to get some help with a back issue that is now resolved. I have since referred two of my friends, both of whom have had the same great results.
The therapists at Carter Physiotherapy are professional, thorough, and genuinely caring in their approach. I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone dealing with pain…they are amazing!

“I am 24 years old and ran into some soft tissue problems with my wrist May 2010. After a month of exercising on my own and attempting to rehab it, I did not have much success. I am a personal trainer, so recovering was important to me as I need my wrist to demonstrate almost every exercise I show to clients.
After one session with Jarod, the mobility of my wrist improved significantly. I am now able to get through my job pain-free. There is still work to be done; however, the results received from one session speak largely to the exemplar level of Manual Therapy at which they operate.
As with any treatment, do not expect to be immediately cured; although, do not be surprised if it turns out to be a rapid fix.

“I recently had a treatment by my therapist at Carter Physiotherapy for a chronic stiff neck issue that has plagued me for over 5 years. At the beginning of the treatment it was painful to turn my head from side to side and I could not begin to try and look back over my shoulder due to pain and stiffness.
After several minutes of treatment, on either side of my neck and into my shoulders, I experienced a range of motion that was greatly improved and the pain had subsided. They also gave me extensive instructions on three different types of stretching exercises and how exactly to perform the motion as well as how long to hold the stretch in order to keep the problem from returning.
I plan to return to Carter Physiotherapy to continue to work out the joint and muscle tension and stiffness that has built up over the years.

“I had been having pain in the upper part of my left foot for four months and after seeing two doctors I was merely told to take some Advil and stay off of my foot. As a hair stylist, it’s very hard to stay off of your feet all day. After a great review I heard from a friend, I went to go see a therapist at Carter Physical Therapy.
They really spend time to get to know you, your life, how and when the pain started, and where the pain is located. After fully examining my foot, he began to work on my foot and within seven or so minutes (this is my best way to describe it) he had moved the bruised and painful area out of my foot. Literally, they massaged the ball of bruise out of the center and down and out of my foot.
The amount of knowledge they have of the human body and all its inner workings is so extensive, but they remain the most humble and genuine doctors I have ever been to. Since they do not take insurance, the therapists at Carter Physical Therapy are able to spend the entire hour with you discussing your problems and providing therapy. One session and you’ll be a believer.

I can feel my Achilles get tight after some of my longer runs, but I spend a good bit of time stretching it out like they showed me and haven’t had any problems after that. I think they also caught my IT band issue by pinpointing how I was rolling my foot outward.
Basically, the therapists at Carter Physiotherapy are miracle workers… THANK YOU! I kept thinking I would have to come see you guys as I ramped up my training for the race next weekend, but I haven’t had any trouble yet. Of course, typical runner, I’m signed up for a 25k trail run in Nov and the 3M in January, so I still have you on speed dial #2 behind my mom. :)

“I’ve been seeing my therapist at Carter PT every other week for about 5 months. I’ve had ongoing, significant pain and discomfort with my shoulder, neck and back for over 3 years. I had been to other PT’s, tried Airrosti, got massages – nothing has been nearly as helpful as my time with him. I feel he actually listens to me and really cares about me as a patient. He takes a holistic approach – examining and working with the entire body since everything is so interconnected. He also helps to identify bad habits in day-to-day life, and form a plan to correct these to eventually stop these recurring pains from persisting or returning. Each session is a totally personalized and hands on experience. He spends most of the hour long session doing manual therapy and will give a few meaningful exercises for you to do on your own, without overwhelming you with a laundry list of them. After trying multiple Physical Therapy places that accepted my insurance and having negative to incredibly negative experiences at each of them (30 short minutes of people so obviously checked out, attention divided, giving me some exercise worksheets and sending me on my way, etc), I decided I’d go see a PT that doesn’t accept insurance in hopes that I’d get better care. Best decision ever. This is the first time in 3 years that I feel like I have an understanding what’s going on in my body and what we’re doing to solve the problem. After 5 months my pain has significantly decreased and I’m continuing to chip away at it with my therapist at Carter PT.

“I had a severe injury. I broke 6+ bones in my foot, including a Lis Franc, my tibia and Fibula. I also had 3 dislocations. I was on no weight bearing for 12 weeks, so, when I was finally given the OK to walk — I couldn’t because my muscles had atrophied. My therapist at Carter PT was excellent. The most important thing about working with him was that he listened to everything I had to say. I had been to two different PTs before him and I felt like I was just one of a million when working with them. I definitely didn’t feel that way about this place at all or about my therapist in particular. He took extensive notes and delivered a program of recovery that was exactly what I needed. This meant that I was taken very well care of, but also that he pushed me to strive a bit further — which is extremely important when dealing with the level of injury that I had.

By a miracle I stumbled upon Carter Physiotherapy. They made some custom orthotics for me, did hands-on manual therapy, and I could walk pain-free within two days. And my pain was so bad that I had to use a cane or crutches to get around on some days. I even went to three podiatrists who all used very conservative treatment methods which didn’t help me at all. I highly recommend Carter Physiotherapy. They get to the root of the problem and fix it.

I had knee pain for six years and after once session with him, it’s completely gone. I think that’s likely a unique situation, as I’m relatively healthy, young, and strong already. However, I am sure most of it was due to his expertise. The office is well managed and patients are received in a timely manner.

“My therapist at Carter PT has been awesome. For 4 years I wore the same pair of shoes everywhere. Literally everywhere, not just exercising, they were the only pair of shoes I could wear without creating new feet/knee/hip pain and neuropathy. I truly feel I was led specifically to him after trying other PTs. I tried all kinds of shoes and luckily took good notes about how I felt in most of them. I created a spreadsheet for him with over 60 shoes and made comments about each of them. He knows a lot about all of the different running shoe models. He went through the list in detail, worked with me for a few sessions to understand my difficulties, then went to a running store to evaluate options based on his assessment of me and all the details I gave him (not many people would take their own time to do this). This was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. He then suggested a few pair of shoes. I ordered them and was shortly the proud wearer of a new pair of shoes! I seriously never thought that day would happen. He has been an awesome PT and works with me at my speed to not flare up symptoms. I love having a full hour of his undivided attention. I look forward to working with him to get into another pair of shoes!

“I first visited my therapist at Carter PT for a very persistent/recurring ankle and foot problem that had been going on for a couple of years. I ran for exercise rather than competetively, and also enjoy hiking and walking vacations. He treated me the first time 2 1/2 years ago, with manual therapy as well as fitting me with orthotics. My ankle and foot improved dramatically. The orthotics worked immediately, and I resumed running painfree for another 2 years. Inevitably, the orthotics began to degrade over time, and the discomfort recurred. I sought him out, as he had since moved to Carter Physiotherapy. My insurance does not cover this treatment, so I told him upfront that I could only commit to 3 or 4 treatments. We reviewed exercises that he had previously given me to work on at home, and he added a few more. My therapist did some massage and manual therapy, but the focus of our sessions was assessing and fitting new orthotics. When the orthotics arrived, I brought several pairs of neutral running shoes to the clinic for him to assess for fit and comfort. His assessment was very helpful. In the end, I purchased another running shoe, and the choice was made using the information that he had given me during the assessment. One week later, I am walking several miles daily, PAINFREE. I have made the choice not to run anymore, as at 58 years old, I am more interested in long term hiking and walking, than running. I have already recommended him to several people that have had various problems, and will continue to do so. I really like the environment at Carter Physiotherapy. I felt listened to as an individual and treated as such. There is no “one size fits all” attitude there. He was also willing to work with me within my budget constraints and made the best use of the time that we had. I would highly recommend this clinic!

“I had been to several physical therapists, chiropractors, trainers, etc and just gave up. I was hitting my late 20’s and was having so much back pain everyday. I was always the weakest link in any outdoor outing. Everyone gave me these quick fix solutions and didn’t take the time to understand my problem. When I went to Jarod, it was my last effort before finally giving up. I always had a pain in my lower back that I couldn’t identify exactly where it was. One appointment with Jarod, he was able to identify not only where my pain was, but also get me on a program to start working on the muscles that are weak. It’s been about a year since seeing Jarod and I recently did a 6 hour hike up a volcano in Guatemala. Jarod is not only an amazing physiotherapist but also a great person to talk with! I had a terrible basketball injury in where I fell hard on my back onto concrete and popped a rib out of place. It has been a long and trying road full of ups and downs (mostly downs), but since coming to Carter Physiotherapy, I’ve been thoroughly impressed at the progress we’ve made. After seeing over 10 different practitioners ranging from other PTs, to massage therapists, to chiropractors, and acupuncturists, I can appreciate Dr. Carter and his team’s attentiveness to my specific pain and injury. It’s been so hard to find people that really investigated this and followed the paths my pain is leading them on. Most every person I’ve seen does their routine method of therapy and then if it doesn’t work, they drag me along repeating techniques that don’t help and this has cost me a fortune these past two years. Dr. Carter and his team have been great listeners and have really been targeting what I feel is my main source of pain. I appreciate their continued persistence and understanding on this. I can’t believe how long I struggled (pretty sure it was close to 3 years) to figure out what was wrong with my leg (and, gosh, how many awful drugs I took to help me live w the pain!) and then BOOM! Carter Physiotherapy almost magically heals me. I know I’m technically not healed. I still have a ways to go but in the big picture, I’m healed when you compare where I was and had been to where I am now. You have given me my life back!!!! Wow. Your office is very neat and clean. “What a cool experience! I wasn’t really sure what to expect and honestly was a little bit nervous that someone was going to want to change how I have been running for years. Immediately I felt comfortable with my therapist, he was friendly and listened to what I had to say about my running history and goals. His initial data gathering was very thorough and what I really liked was that he was very focused on what I wanted for my running goals. His approach of fixing issues before they begin by fixing form just makes sense. All levels of runners could benefit from this service. I really enjoyed the very detailed video analysis of my form. He pointed out a lot things that were happening during my stride that I had never really noticed or thought about before such as how to push off with my first and second toe, and also about how hamstring engagement can affect form. Overall I was really happy to see that I didn’t really need to change anything, and based on a history free of running injuries, this confirmed that. But, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and I fully believe that this could improve the longevity and enjoyment of running for all types of runners. Once my wife has her baby and picks up her mileage again she will be coming in for an analysis!

“It is my pleasure to write a review about Jarod Carter at Carter Physiotherapy. I have been Jarod Carter’s client for around 6 weeks. I was referred to Jarod from a highly respected doctor in my hometown of Austin, Texas. I have a injury of unknown etiology or I have no clue how I injured myself, but I have had a high level of neck, shoulder and arm pain for at least a month before I started seeing Jarod. The pain was so bad I lost all my energy and had some sleeping issues. My X-ray showed nothing and MRI showed mild herniation of cervical 3, which is nothing serious. However, I am miserable and also have a huge responsibility of taking care of my 37 year old disabled daughter. After one call, Mary, Jarod’s office manager got me in to see Jarod the next day. I’m a nurse, so I’m trained to assess people in other fields of medicine. Simply put, after my first visit I was so impressed with Jarod’s training, skill, thoroughness and professionalness as well. Jarod basically is as good as it gets and I feel blessed to have found him. Over the last six weeks Jarod has seen me twice weekly and I have improved everytime he works on me and advises me. After 6-7 weeks I’m almost completely pain free. I’m now seeing Jarod on a maintainence basis. He has helped me with my posture, added a cervicle pillow that has improved my neck support while I sleep and given me many helpful home stretches to keep my issues at bay. Jarod also has spent a lot of time improving issues I have with being a caretaker and how I can avoid injury. Jarod Carter is just the best and as a professional I highly recommend him and his clinic.

“I sprained my ankle badly in February this year, and received almost no physical therapy guidance until I saw Jarod in June. I was still not able to run on it, and he even said it was one of the worst sprains he had seen. After two sessions with him I was able to start running and after four I was comfortable running more than a mile. It’s amazing the kind of turnaround I had after continuing my home therapy in addition to seeing Jarod once a week. The ankle is continuing to get better since I visited Carter Physiotherapy, very thankful for this place and Jarod.

“I had an amazing experience with my therapist at Carter PT. I saw him to get a video running analysis. I am 38 and very active. In college as a hobby, I ran. Then graduate school, career and family became my priorities, and exercise took a backseat. About a year and a half ago, I started running again around Austin. It was a tough start just getting my endurance up and getting adjusted to the heat… and dealing with shin splints. Once I was able to run several miles and recovered from the shin splints with ice, stretching and resting, I was getting awful pain in my right knee and left ankle. I was about to give up on running, but then I found him. He did a video run analysis on me, and discussed the results right after the analysis. He noticed that I was striking the ground without enough knee flexion and now that it has been corrected, the pain is gone. Honestly, I am somewhat self-conscious and couldn’t stand the idea of someone videoing and analyzing me. He made the experience very comfortable and established the objective to help me improve my running posture to eliminate the pain. I highly recommend him for run analysis, hands on physical therapy and dry needling.

“I had a great experience with Carter Physiotherapy. I was referred to them by my physical therapist in Lubbock, Tx. After doing some research, I drove all the way to Austin, and I am very glad I did. Over the past 3 years I’ve had Achilles and hip surgery, which has created constant back pain. I personally worked with my therapist. He took interest in my injury history and asked numerous questions about the previous treatments I have tried. We talked for almost an hour before we got started with any therapy. I appreciated this because most doctors and therapists I had previously seen took no interest in what I had to say. Once we got started with hands on therapy, I could immediately tell that this was a unique style of treatment. We did an assessment of strength tests on my affected areas and located which muscles and groups needed attention. After doing that, I laid back and let him do his magic. I did a 2 hour session and could feel results as soon as we finished, these results held up the next day and allowed me to move forward in my rehab and physical training.
